To a suspension of methyl 5-methoxy-4-oxo-1-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-1,4-dihydropyridazine-3-carboxylate (10.0 g, 30.5 mmol) in MeOH (100 mL) was added 1 M NaOH aqueous solution (61 mL) at 0° C. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 min. To the solution was added 1 M HCl aqueous solution (61 mL) at 0° C. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo. The precipitates were collected by filtration, washed with water and dried in vacuo at 60° C. to yield the title compound (8.78 g, 92% yield) as a pale yellow solid: 1H NMR (DMSO-d6, 300 MHz): δ ppm 3.98 (3H, s), 7.82-8.01 (2H, m), 8.11-8.34 (2H, m), 8.97 (1H, s), 15.00 (1H, brs).
