In a manner similar to the method described in Example 1a, glycine tert-butyl ester (1.31 g, 10 mmol) was reacted with 3-chlorobenzaldehyde (Aldrich) (1.4 g, 10 mmol) in CH2Cl2 at room temperature for 18 h to give {[1-(3-chloro-phenyl)-meth-(E)-ylidene]-amino}-acetic acid tert-butyl ester as a pale yellow oil (2.4 g, 95%).
