Step A To the solution of 5-(tert-butyl-dimethyl-silanyloxy)-3,3-dimethyl-pentan-1-ol (1.1 g, 5 mmol) prepared in Example 116a Step B. and triethylamine (1.39 mL, 10 mmol) in dichloromethane (50 mL) at 0° C. was added a dichlormethane solution (10 mL) of methanesulfonyl chloride (Aldrich) (0.46 mL, 6 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 1 h. Water was added. Organic layer was separated, the aqueous layer was extracted with dichlormethane. The combined organic layers were washed with diluted aqueous HCl solution, saturated aqueous NaHCO3 solution, brine, dried over MgSO4, and concentrated to give methanesulfonic acid 5-(tert-butyl-dimethyl-silanyloxy)-3,3-dimethyl-pentyl ester as a yellow oil (1.48 g, 99%).
