Step F In a manner similar to the method described in Example 1a, glycine tert-butyl ester (0.79 g, 6 mmol) was reacted with 3-methyl-3-(5-methyl-furan-2-yl)-butyraldehyde 1 g, 6 mmol) in CH2Cl2 at room temperature for 5 h to give [3-methyl-3-(5-methyl-furan-2-yl)-but-(E)-ylideneamino]-acetic acid tert-butyl ester as a colorless oil (1.7 g, 100%).
