4.5 g of 4-(5-nitro-2-methoxy-phenyl)-[1,4]diazepane-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (12.8 mmol) was dissolved in 40 mL of methanol, 1.36 g of 10% Pd/C was added and the mixture was hydrogenated under hydrogen gas for 4 h at 40° C. The reaction mixture was filtered over Celite and the filtrate evaporated to dryness in vacuo to yield 3.9 g of the title compound which was used in the next step without further purification.
