Procedure

To a solution of the product from Step A (0.22 g, 0.58 mmol) in methanol (5 mL) was added trifluoroacetic acid (5 mL) and the mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 2 days. The mixture was evaporated to a residue, which was stirred with a 2 N solution of hydrogen chloride in ethanol (5 mL) and evaporated to afford a solid (0.21 g): mp 105-108° C.; LC/MS (+APCI) m/z 278 (M+H).
