Reaction Steps
The title compound was prepared as outlined in a procedure described by B. E. Boulton, B. A. Coller, Aust. J. Chem., 1974, 27, 2343. To a mechanically stirred solution of indazole (5.0 g, 42 mmol) in 20% aq. NaOH (75 mL) was added bromine (1.4 mL, 27 mmol) dropwise. After stirring at ambient temperature for 2 h, the reaction mixture was cooled and acidified by careful addition of concentrated HCl. The solids formed were filtered and dried to give 5.5 g of the title compound.
