Procedure

A mixture of methyl 3-[(2,2-dimethylpropanoyl)amino]-4-[(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-ylmethyl)amino]benzoate (step C, 455 mg, 1.31 mmol) and pivalic acid (2.20 g, 21.5 mmol) was stirred at 120° C. for 12 h. After cooling to room temperature, the mixture was diluted with dichloromethane. The solution was washed with 1N sodium hydroxide aqueous solution, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (hexane:ethyl acetate=1:1 as eluent) to afford the title compound (327 mg, 76%) as a white solid.
