To a suspension of 4-hydroxy-3-[1-oxo-3-(pyridin-4-yl)propyl]-1-phenyl-1,8-naphthyridin-2 (1H)-one (50 mg, 0.13 mmol, prepared in Synthetic Example 1) in ethanol (1 ml) was added hydrazine monohydrate (80%, 20 μl, 0.50 mmol, 3.7 eq.) and the resultant mixture was heated under reflux overnight. The liquid reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, and then filtered to give precipitates which were dried to obtain 5-phenyl-3-[2-(pyridin-4-yl)ethyl]-1H-pyrazolo[4,3-c][1,8]-naphthyridin-4 (5H)-one (40 mg, 81%).
