A mixture of 3-[4-(3-fluoro-5-methoxy-phenoxy)-2-methyl-phenyl]-acrylic acid ethyl ester (0.98 g, 2.96 mmol) and 10% Pd/C (0.50 g) in ethyl acetate (50 mL) is purged with N2, and then with H2. The mixture is stirred under a hydrogen balloon for three hours. The reaction is filtered through hyflo, and the solvent is removed in vacuo to afford 0.715 g (73%) of the title compound. Rf=0.53 (2/1 hexanes/EtOAc). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3); MS (ES+) m/z mass calculated for C19H21O4F 332, found 333 (M+1, 100%).
