To a solution of (2-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-ethylamino)-(3-methoxy-phenyl)-acetic acid methyl ester (10.4 mmol) in TiAF:H2O (3:1, 40 mL) was added LiOH (10.9 mmol) and the reaction mixture was stirred for 3 hours at room temperature. The reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo then diluted with H20 and neutralised with 2M HCl solution and the resulting precipitate was collected by filtration to afford the title compound in 46% yield.
