Reaction Steps
The crude 6-amino-5-oxo-decahydro-pyrrolo[1,2-a]azocine-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester, 18, obtained from the previous reaction is dissolved in a mixture of THF:water (3:1) (40 mL) and treated with a catalytic amount of LiOH. The reaction solution is allowed to stir overnight then concentrated in vacuo to afford the desired product which is used without further purification.
