A methylene chloride solution of N-tert-butoxycarbonyl-4-(2,6-dimethoxyphenyl)-L-phenylalanine methyl ester was treated with trifluoroacetic acid for six hours at room temperature. Concentration of the volatiles yielded the title compound.
