A mixture of intermediate (12) (0.0941 mol) in HCl 6N (200 ml) and methanol (100 ml) was stirred and refluxed for 6 hours, cooled and poured out on ice. The precipitate was filtered off, washed with diethyl ether and dried, yielding 21.8 g (90%) of 3-(3-chlorophenyl)-2,1-benzisoxazole-5-carboxaldehyde (intermediate 13), mp. 148° C.
