2,4-Dichloro-3-nitropyridine (1.0 g, 5,18 mmol) was dissolved in EtOH (20 mL), followed by the addition of Et3N (1.05 g, 10.4 mmol) and (R)-1-methoxymethyl-propylamine (0.72 g, 5.18 mmol) and the reaction was heated at 60° C. for 3 h. The reaction was concentrated in vacuo to yield 2.09 g of (R)-(4-chloro-3-nitro-pyridin-2-yl)-(1-methoxymethyl-propyl)-amine as a crude viscous oil: MS (AP) m/z 259.69 [(M+H)+, 97].
