Procedure
1 g (3.07 mmol) of 3-[2-(2,4-Dichlorophenyl)-ethoxy]-benzoic acid methyl ester was dissolved in 20 ml of dioxan. 2N aqueous NaOH was added to the solution to give a pH of 13. The reaction solution was heated at 50° C. for 3 h, and stirred at RT for 16 h. 5 ml water was added, followed by concentrated hydrochloric acid to give a pH of 1 to 2, whereupon the product precipitated from solution. The suspension was stirred for 30 min, then the product was filtered off and dried under reduced pressure.
