A mixture of 84 parts of ethyl 4-[(4-chloro-2-nitrophenyl)amino]-1-piperidinecarboxylate and 750 parts of a hydrobromic acid solution 48% in water is stirred and refluxed for 4 hours. The precipitated product is filtered off, washed with water and petroleumether, and dried, yielding 71 parts (81%) of N-(4-chloro-2-nitrophenyl)-4-piperidinamine hydrobromide; mp. 275° C.
