α-Methyl-2-(α,α,β,β-tetrafluorophenethyl)-benzylamine, 1.06 g. (0.00357 mole), in 50 ml. of ethylformate is stirred and heated to refluxing for about 21 hours. Evaporation of the solution to dryness and trituration of the residue with hexane gives N-[α-methyl-2-(α,α,β,β-tetrafluorophenethyl)-benzyl]-formamide, m.p. 94.5°-99° C. Recrystallizations from ether-petroleum ether and isopropyl alcohol-water afford a purified sample, m.p. 103°-105° C.
