A solution of 3-(3-bromopropyl)-5-flouro-1H-indole (0.95 g, 3 mmol) and sodium azide (0.59 g, 9 mmol) in anhydrous dimethyl formamide is stirred at 60° C. for 18 h, poured into water and extracted with methylene chloride. The extracts are combined, washed with water, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated in vacuo. The resultant residue is purified by flash chromatography (silica gel, EtOAc/hexane: 3/7) to afford the title product as a clear oil, 0.98 g (91% yield), identified by NMR and mass spectral analyses.
