Methyl 4-(3-methyl-1-oxobutyl)-1-(1-naphthalenylmethyl)-1H-pyrrole-3-carboxylate (0.35 g) prepared as described in Example 1c) above and hydrazine hydrate (0.2 ml) were stirred in ethanol (10 ml) for 2 days. The reaction mixture was poured into water to give a solid which was collected and recrystallised from ethyl acetate-cyclohexane to afford the sub-title pyrrole (0.22 g).
