A suspension of 2,3-dihydro-2-methyl-6-(1-naphthalenylmethyl)-1H-pyrrolo[3,4-d]pyridazine-1,4(6H)-dione (0.10 g) in phosphorus oxychloride (1 ml) was heated at reflux for 30 minutes and then allowed to cool. The solvent was evaporated, water (25 ml) was added and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (2×25 ml). The organic extracts were dried, filtered and evaporated to give the sub-title compound (0.095 g).
