Procedure
To a stirring solution of 3-bromo-thiophene-2-carbaldehyde (0.120 g, 0.6 mmol)and 2thiopheneboronic acid (0.134 g, 0.75 mmol) in 1,2-dimethoxyethane(4.0 ml) under argon was added sodium bicarbonate solution (1.0 M, 3.0 ml). Tetrakis(triphenylphosphine) palladium (0) (0.022 g, 0.02 mmol) was then added to the reaction mixture. The solution was heated under reflux for 24 hrs, then was extracted with ethyl acetate three times. The combined organic layers were dried over MgSO4. The solvent was evaporated to yield [2,3′]bithiophenyl-2′-carbaldehyde as a colorless oil which was used directly in next step, without further purification.
