Procedure

After addition of 1M solution of tetrabutylanimonium fluoride (19.11 ml, 19.11 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran to a solution of (±)-1-(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxymethyl)-N-methyl-N-(4-phenoxybenzenesulfonyl)-2-phthalimidoethylamine (7.40 g, 12.74 mmol), the product of (4) above, in tetrahydrofuran (50 ml), the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The solvent of the reaction mixture was evaporated under reduced pressure. To the resulting residue, water was added and this was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with water, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by chromatography on a silica gel column using hexane/ethyl acetate=2/1 as the eluant to afford the desired compound (1.70 g, yield 29%) as a white powder.
