3-(m-Methylphenyl)-1-propanol (0.45 g, 3.00 mmol), MsCl(278 uL, 3.60 mmol) and Et3N (0.84 mL, 6.00 mmol) were combined in CH2Cl2 (30 mrL) and stirred at 0° C. for 4 hrs. The reaction was then diluted with CH2Cl2 (30 mL) and washed with cold brine, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated to give a light brown oil. This was used without further purification. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ2.04-2.09 (m, 2H), 2.33(s. 3H), 2.69-2.74 (t, 2H), 2.99 (s, 3H), 4.20-4.24 (t, 2H), 6.97-7.04 (m, 3H), 7.16-7.19 (m, 1H).
