Reaction Steps
Ethynylferrocene 500 was reacted with 1,3-diiodobenzene 502 to form 1-(ferrocenylethynyl)-3-iodobenzene 504. Sufficient ethynylferrocene 500 was present such that the second step of the reaction immediately proceeded. 1-(Ferrocenylethynyl)-3-iodobenzene 504 reacted with ethynylferrocene 514 to form 1,3-bis(ferrocenylethynyl) benzene 516. The reaction procedure is shown in FIG. 5.
