Procedure
110 g (0.52 mol) of 6-chloro-3-methylisatoic anhydride were introduced into a mixture of 750 ml of methanol and 47.6 g (0.47 mol) of triethylamine at 22° C. with stirring and the mixture was then stirred at 65° C. for 2 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo, and the residue was taken up in methylene chloride and extracted 3× with 0.5 N sodium hydroxide solution. After drying over magnesium sulfate, filtering through silica gel and concentrating in vacuo, 45.5 g (43.8% of theory) of the title compound were obtained as a colorless oil of nD23=1.5765.
