Procedure
Amine preparation: a mixture of BOC-piperazine (1.87 g), ethyl 2-bromoisobutyrate (5.90 g) and potassium carbonate (1.53 g) in MeCN (20 mL) was heated in a sealed tube at 80° C. for 3 days. The reaction mixture was cooled, diluted with chloroform, washed with brine, dried (MgSO4) and the solvent removed in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash column chromatography to yield 4-(1-ethoxycarbonyl-1-methyl-ethyl)-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (2.97 g).
