3-(4-Trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-acryloyl chloride (I-29b: 4.5 g, 0.019 mol) in 1,4-dioxane (20 mL) was added to a stirred mixture of sodium azide (2.7 g, 0.042 mol) in water (10 mL) at 0° C. under nitrogen atmosphere and the reaction mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 20 minutes under nitrogen atmosphere. The reaction was monitored by TLC (10% ethylacetate in hexane). The reaction mixture was partitioned between water and diethyl ether. The organic layer was washed with brine solution, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated to afford 5.5 g of the crude product which was used in the next step without further purification.
