6-Fluoro-2-(4-methylpyridin-3-yl)-3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-1(2H)-one (83A: 350 mg, 1.38 mmol) was reacted with conc. H2SO4 (4 mL) and KNO3 (154 mg, 1.52 mmol) for 4 hours to afford 250 mg of the product (60.0% yield).
