To a solution of methyl 5-methyl-4-{1-methyl-4-[(1Z)-1-propen-1-yl]-1H-pyrazol-5-yl}-2-thiophenecarboxylate (243 mg, 0.88 mmol) in methanol (6.8 ml) was added Pd(OH)2 (49 mg, 0.35 mmol). The reaction mixture was hydrogenated at 1 atm (balloon) for 1 h. The solution was then purged with N2, filtered through Celite and concentrated affording methyl 5-methyl-4-(1-methyl-4-propyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)-2-thiophenecarboxylate (217 mg, 0.69 mmol, 78% yield) as a clear oil which was used without further purification: LCMS (ES) m/e 279 (M+H)+.
