To a 100 mL round-bottomed flask was added methyl 4-(4-ethenyl-1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)-2-thiophenecarboxylate and 10% Pd/C in ethyl acetate (15 mL). The mixture was evacuated slightly, refilled with H2 from a balloon and stirred vigorously under an atmosphere of H2 for 1 hour. The reaction was filtered through a 0.2 μm PTFE membrane filter and used without further purification (153 mg, 0.60 mmol, 87%): LC-MS (ES) m/z=251 (M+H)+.
