Procedure
Under a nitrogen atmosphere 0.95 g (4.83 mmol) 7-chloro-5-methoxy-2-methyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazole and 7.0 g (0.06 mol) pyridine hydrochloride were stirred for 15 h at a bath temperature of 180° C. The reaction mixture was poured onto water while still hot and made alkaline with an aqueous K2CO3 solution. The substance was extracted with ethyl acetate and washed with water. The organic phase was separated off, dried and evaporated down i.vac.
