3-Methyl-2-(5-oxo-2,5-dihydrofuran-3-yl)-2,8-diazaspiro[4.5]decan-1-one (I-22, 0.257 mmol) was dissolved in ethanol (3 mL), and treated with diisopropylethylamine (135 μl, 0.771 mmol) followed by (R)-4-methyl-5-(oxiran-2-yl)isobenzofuran-1(3H)-one (I-4B, 73.3 mg, 0.385 mmol). The mixture was heated at 80° C. in a sealed tube for 12 hours. The reaction mixture was then cooled to room temperature and concentrated. The resulting crude product was purified by column chromatography eluting with a 0-20% MeOH/EtOAc gradient to give the title product as a mixture of diastereomers. LC-MS (IE, m/z): 441.3 (M+1)+.
