To 14.0 g methyl 3-nitro-1H-pyrazole-5-carboxylate in 200 mL methanol were added 1.2 g Pd/C (10% w/w). The mixture was stirred under H2-atmosphere at room temperature for 18 h. The mixture was filtered through Celite. The filtrate was concentrated and the crude product was used without further purification.
