Procedure

To a mixture of 1-(7-amino-3-methyl-1H-indol-2-yl)propan-1-one (0.17 g) and pyridine (6 mL) was added thiophene-2-sulfonyl chloride (0.18 g) at 0° C., and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hr. The reaction mixture was concentrated, 10% aqueous citric acid solution was added, and the resulting crystals were filtrated, washed with water and dried. The obtained crystals were subjected to silica gel column chromatography, and eluted with ethyl acetate. The eluate was treated with activated carbon and concentrated to give the title compound (0.19 g, yield 65%) as colorless crystals. The crystals were recrystallized from ethyl acetate-hexane. melting point >185° C. (decomposition).
