Procedure

tert-Butyl 4-(cyanomethylene)piperidine-1-carboxylate (5.0 g, 22 mmol) was dissolved in DCM (75.0 mL). TFA (8.70 mL, 112 mmol) was added, and the resulting mixture was allowed to stir at ambient temperature for 2 hours. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound. LRMS (ESI) calc'd for C7H10N2 [M+H]+: 123. Found: 123.
