A solution of tert-butyl (2,6-dichloro-3-(((trans-4-methylcyclohexyl)methyl)amino)pyridin-4-yl)carbamate (150 g, 0.386 mol) in HCl/1,4-dioxane (4 M, 3.0 L) was stirred at 45° C. for 15 h. The mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure to give crude 2,6-dichloro-N3-((trans-4-methylcyclohexyl)methyl)pyridine-3,4-diamine.
