A mixture of (1-(2-Methyl-4-phenylthiazol-5-yl)-2-oxabicyclo[2.2.2]octan-4-yl)methyl 4-methylbenzenesulfonate (125 mg, 0.266 mmol) and NaI (120 mg, 0.799 mmol) in acetone (5 mL) was stirred in a seal tube at 85° C. for 18 h. The reaction was cooled to rt, diluted with DCM (5 mL), and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was purified by flash chromatography on SiO2 (0-30% EtOAc:hexanes) to afford the title compound (100 mg, 88% yield) as a light yellow oil. 1H NMR (500 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.45-7.34 (m, 5H), 3.79 (s, 2H), 2.96 (s, 2H), 2.66 (s, 3H), 2.12-2.00 (m, 2H), 1.90-1.78 (m, 2H), 1.71-1.51 (m, 4H).
