Procedure
A solution of 2-[3-methoxy-4-(4-methyl-imidazol-1-yl)-phenylamino]-6-methyl-pyrimidin-4-ol (1.45 g (46.6 mmol) in phosphorous oxychloride (4.7 mL) was heated to reflux for 2 h. The excess of phosphorous oxychloride was evaporated under reduce pressure and the residue was treated carefully with ice and then, under ice cooling, with 25% aqueous ammonia. The precipitate formed was filtered off, washed with water and then with diethyl ether and dried to give the title compound (1.53 g, 100%) as a pale-brown solid.
