Procedure

In 50 ml of dichloromethane, 8.1 g of 4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-7-oxobenzo[b]thiophen-4-amine is stirred under a nitrogen atmosphere and 2.9 g of methyl cyanate in 50 ml of dichloromethane is added dropwise at below 30° C. After stirring for an hour, the title compound is collected, m.p. 212° C. to 215° C.
