Treatment of ethyl 2-(hydroxymethyl)-3-(3-pyridyl)-butyrate with thiourea and sodium ethoxide, followed by acidification gave 5-(1-(3-pyridyl)ethyl)-2-thiouracil m.p. 225°-228°.
