4-methoxycarbonylphenyl boronic acid (541 mg) and 2-chloro-5-trifluoromethylpyridine (718 mg) were added to a suspension of bisbenzonitriledichloropalladium (119 mg) and 1,4-bisdiphenylphosphinobutane (131 mg) in toluene (10 ml) at ambient temperature and then ethanol (5 ml) and saturated aqueous sodium hydrogencarbonate solution (5 ml) were added to the mixture. This mixture was heated at reflux for 5 hours at 100° C. The reaction mixture was partitioned between ethyl acetate and water. The ethyl acetate layer was separated and washed with saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. To the residue diisopropyl ether was added to afford the desired compound (841 mg) as a white powder which include some impurity.
