Reaction Steps

A solution of product prepared in STEP 3 (5.6 g), saturated hydrochloric acid/ethanol (70 ml) was stirred at room temperature overnight. Solvent was removed. The crude product was purified on a silica gel column, eluting with 0.5% ethyl acetate/hexane to afford colorless oil (3.3 g). The 1H NMR was consistent with the proposed structure.
