Procedure
20 parts of 2-methylamino-4-N-methylpiperazino-5-methylthio-6-chloro-pyrimidine are dissolved in 130 parts by volume of n-propanol in the presence of 7 parts of caustic potash in pellets. The mixture is held for 2 hours at the reflux temperature, then poured into water. The oil which separates is extracted with ether. The organic phase is washed with water, dried and evaporated. The residue is taken up in petrol ether in which it solidifies. It is recrystallised from the petrol ether. M.p. 90° C.
