Sodium triacetoxyborohydride (250 mg, 1.2 mmol) and acetic acid (42 mg, 1.2 mmol) were added to a mixture of 5-(4-fluoro-3-formylphenyl)-indazole-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (270 mg, 0.8 mmol) and (2-amino-ethyl)-methyl-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester (210 mg, 1.2 mmol) in 8 mL of dichloroethane. The mixture was stirred at ambient temperature overnight, and then it was diluted with water, the layers were separated and the aqueous phase was extracted with dichloromethane. The combined organic layers were washed with sequentially with water, saturated sodium bicarbonate solution and water, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to leave the crude product. Chromatography (elution with methanol/dichloromethane) provided 400 mg of product. LC/MS: Retention time, 2.66 min; (M+H)=499.
