Procedure

To a solution of 6 (160 mg, 0.46 mmol) in EtOH (5 mL) 0.568 g of a freshly prepared solution of potassium hydroxide (253.2 mg in 5.013 g H2O, 0.045 M) was added. The mixture was stirred at 23-25° C. for 1 h (completion monitored by TLC) and neutralized with 0.1% HCl (neutral by pH indicator paper). Solvent was evaporated in vacuo and the residue dissolved in ethyl acetate and flash filtered through a pad of silica gel to remove inorganic impurities. The silica gel was washed with ethyl acetate, fractions combined and solvent evaporated in vacuo to afford 136 mg (97%) of 6d.
