To a solution of ethyl 5-fluoro-1-hydroxy-4,4-dimethyl-3-oxo-3,4-dihydronaphthalene-2-carboxylate (2.0 g, 7.2 mmol) in 1,4-dioxane (15 mL), was added N-ethyl-N-isopropylpropan-2-amine (2.3 mL, 13 mmol) and tert-butyl 2-aminoacetate hydrochloride (1.6 g, 9.3 mmol). After heating at 80° C. for 12 hours, the solvent was removed in vacuo, and the residue was purified using flash chromatography (15% EtOAc/hexane) to afford the product as a white solid (1.6 g). MS (m/z)=362 (M+H)+.
