Procedure

DIPEA (939 μL, 5390 μmol) was added to a mixture of ethyl 7-fluoro-4-hydroxy-1,1-dimethyl-2-oxo-naphthalene-3-carboxylate (1.00 g, 3594 μmol) and glycine tert-butyl ester hydrochloride (723 mg, 4312 μmol) in dioxane (25 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at 75° C. for 16 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and concentrated in vacuo to give a yellow solid. The crude solid was suspended in ether and filtered to give the desired ester as a white solid (590 mg). MS (m/e)=308.1 (M+H-tBu)+.
