Procedure

DIPEA (1870 μL, 10738 μmol, 2.5 eq) was added to a mixture of ethyl 4-hydroxy-1,1-dimethyl-2-oxo-7-(trifluoromethyl)-naphthalene-3-carboxylate (1.41 g, 4295 μmol) and glycine tert-butyl ester hydrochloride (864 mg, 5154 μmol) in dioxane (50 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at 75° C. for 15 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and concentrated in vacuo to give a yellow solid. The crude solid was purified by silica flash chromatography (0-40% DCM/hexane) to give the desired ester as a white solid (380 mg). MS (m/e)=358.1 (M+H-tBu)+.
