Procedure
[(2R,3R)-3-(3-chlorophenyl)oxiran-2-yl]methanol (4.8 g, 26 mmol) and indoline (d 1.063, 2.9 mL, 26 mmol) were heated neat at 135° C. in a sealed flask. After 1.5 hours, the cooled mixture was pre-adsorbed on silica gel (25 g). Flash column chromatography (silica 375 g, 20%, 40%, 80% ethyl acetate/hexanes) provided (2S,3S)-3-(3-chlorophenyl)-3-(2,3-dihydro-1H-indol-1-yl)propane-1,2-diol (5.8 g, 73%) as a white solid. MS (ES) m/z 304 ([M+H]+).
